Innovative landfill Gas Upgrading System delivered

HyGear successfully finalized the delivery of its Gas Upgrading System (GUS) for landfill in the city of Lillestrøm, Norway. The system is part of the Hynor Lillestrøm AS hydrogen-fueling station with on-site hydrogen production based on renewable energy sources. The station is located in Akershus Energy Park in Lillestrøm, ca. 30 km north of Oslo.

The GUS will upgrade landfill gas with methane, nitrogen and carbon dioxide into a product stream with high purity methane. The upgraded and purified biogas will be fed into the Sorption Enhanced Steam Methane Reformer (SESMR) developed by the Institute for Energy Technology (IFE).

Gas Upgrading Process

Landfill gas containing 41vol% methane, N2 and CO2 is desulfurized to remove the sulfur that is harmful for the system. Second, the gaseous stream is pressurized and fed into the PSA system for gas cleaning, resulting in a stream of >85% pure CH4.
