HyGear will be deploying its Hy.GEN system in Q3 of 2017 in Columbia where it will be used by CI SIGRA S.A. for the hydrogenation of edible oil and fats.
The process of hydrogenation involves the use of hydrogen molecules to saturate organic compounds in the presence of a catalyst. For this instance, the hydrogen gas is used to convert liquid oil into margarine. This process prevents oxidation and stabilizes the oil.
The Hy.GEN steam reforming technology reduces costs for hydrogenation significantly as SIGRA replaces its electrolyser systems.
