Cooperation between HyGear and Rijngas to produce and market green hydrogen

Production of green hydrogen
HyGear builds and supplies hydrogen technology worldwide and also produces (green) hydrogen in Arnhem. Rijngas sells hydrogen and, in this cooperation, buys the produced green hydrogen from HyGear. HyGear will expand the fill-site in Arnhem to meet the strongly increasing demand. With the acquisition of HyGear’s hydrogen tube trailers by Rijngas, Rijngas is now also able to supply even larger volumes, or make them available as storage or, for testing. Bundles, tube or bottle trailers can also be filled for third parties in Arnhem. HyGear and Rijngas had already been working together successfully for some time: this renewed intensification of the cooperation provides an important fulfilment of hydrogen market development.
‘The demand for scalable and decentralised hydrogen production is increasing. HyGear develops the latest technologies, supplies the technology, provides green hydrogen production and filling from its production site in Arnhem and further greenifies hydrogen in combination with the expertise of parent company and renewable energy technology company HoSt Group,’ said Henk Kleef, CEO of HyGear.
Sale of hydrogen
For small volumes, Rijngas applies an exchange concept. This uses 300-bar exchange tanks with a capacity of 0.55 kg. The next step is for Rijngas to supply hydrogen in bottle bundles. These bundles contain 16 300-bar bottles, equivalent to about 16 kg of hydrogen. Rijngas has a large park of these bundles available, and a good logistics network to provide an optimal service. In addition, hydrogen pressure containers can be filled at any location with the ‘Easy Fill’ filling system. This is done on the basis of pressure equalisation, from hydrogen bundles, without the need for further utilities. For larger volumes, deliveries by tube trailers are possible. For even larger volumes, there is the possibility of using an on-site unit from HyGear to produce hydrogen locally.
‘It is mainly this flexibility and the ability to scale up, which is the great added value for the hydrogen market. Not only over a long period of time, but the combination between HyGear and Rijngas, now makes it immediately possible to supply hydrogen in small to large volumes or produce it locally,’ says Norbert Romijn, director Rijngas.
