Oxygen removal from biomethane to meet gas grid specifications

De.OXO® Biomethane reduces the oxygen concentration in your biomethane from values as high as 1% down to below 5 ppmv, meeting the most stringent natural gas grid specifications. The system includes an integrated, closed loop TSA (temperature swing adsorption) system for water removal. HyGear’s modular approach ensures a suitable solution for your specific biomethane flow, with capacities up to 4,000 Nm³/h.

Features De.OXO Biomethane®

  • Achieves stringent gas grid specifications
  • Compatible with distribution and transmission gas grids
  • Easy integration with existing or new upgrading system
  • Optimized energy efficiency
  • Modular systems: easy to scale as biomethane/RNG volume changes
  • Closed loop water removal
  • 24/7 service and monitoring

Where De.OXO® Biomethane fits in your biomethane process

De.OXO® Biomethane is typically installed downstream of a biogas upgrader, treating the gas before it enters the grid. It can also be used in the grid itself, downstream of a reverse flow station. The system integrates easily with new and existing upgrading systems.

20+ years of experience in biogas

Grid operators set strict limits on oxygen in injected biomethane. HyGear builds on more than 20 years of experience in biogas to help producers meet those limits reliably. De.OXO® Biomethane is delivered as a turnkey, skid mounted system for outdoor operation, supported by 24/7 service and monitoring.

The result is an oxygen concentration of 5 ppmv or lower (dry base), making the gas suitable for grid injection.

Reactor vessel

The reactor vessel is the heart of the De.OXO® Biomethane technology. Here, a reaction between oxygen and methane happens on high temperature forming water and CO₂. This reaction removes the oxygen from the gas stream. The result is an oxygen concentration below 5 ppm, making the gas suitable for industrial applications requiring high purity.
Deoxygenation technology

Heat exchanger

In this heat exchanger, the biomethane is introduced via a biogas blower and then flows back to the reactor vessel while heated up. The heat exchanger captures waste heat and uses it to preheat the incoming biogas before it enters the reactor.
